The neo-liberal government’s succession in the last decade of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st has left the government of Daniel Ortega a devastated Nicaragua and sinking into poverty, with important challenges to confront. The new army seems to show their willingness to assume the challenges.

Augusto Zamora R. is the Nicaraguan Ambassador in Spain. He has been a professor of International Law and International Relations at the Autónoma University in Madrid. He served as a lawyer for the state of Nicaragua before the International Court of Justice from 1983 to 2001. He is a columnist for the newspaper El Mundo (Spain). His most recently published book is “Ridiculed Peace. The Peace Process in Central America”.
